內(nèi)容簡(jiǎn)介Word processing is one of the most common types of computer applications. A good word processor enables and automates creating high quality output, both on screen and on printed page. And to be able to produce such output means taking into account the rules of typography, a complex discipline with a long history.
 
The presenter has spent more than 10 years working in Microsoft Typography group as well as working on MS Word and more recently on Adobe Text Engine. A brief overveiw of the complexities, challenges and recent break-throughs of the state of the art word processing and publishing software will be given.
 
We will also look at the new formula editor in MS Word 2007. This feature allows to enter

formulas into a MS Word document in a TeX-like format, thus converting MS Word into a convenient tool for writing mathematical papers. We will have a little demonstration and give some practical hints on how it can be put to use. We will then compare it to TeX and discuss its advantages and disadvantages.
